Referrals from other professionals and satisfied clients are often the highest quality source of new business. This note focuses on how we proactively build relationships and encourage referrals.

Building Our Network & Encouraging Referrals

Let's define our strategy:

Key Referral Sources Who are the top 5-10 types of professionals (e.g., specific types of lawyers, accountants, realtors) or client groups most likely to refer our 20.1 - Ideal Client-Profile? Let's list them.
Relationship Building How can we proactively build genuine relationships with key referrers? (e.g., Coffee meetings, sharing useful info, referring work to them, expressing appreciation). Who on our team focuses on which relationships?
Networking Activities Which industry events, business groups, or community organizations are most valuable for us to attend or participate in? What's our goal when networking? (Relationship building, not just collecting cards).
Encouraging Referrals How do we make it easy for people to refer us? Do we have clear info to share? How do we thank referrers (ethically)? Should we actively ask satisfied clients for referrals or reviews? (See also 30.6 - Client Retention & Loyalty Programs).
Tracking & Follow-up How will we track where new clients come from? How do we ensure timely follow-up on referrals received?
